Website Building Basics
There are many types of websites on the internet. Some are very basic, basically about a notch above a Facebook profile. These can do with free hosting, and their owners need not worry about a domain name. However, serious business website is much more detailed and complex. These sites require unique and attractive domain names. If you were developing a website for an online pharmacy for instance, you could not use the name
XLPharmacy, as it is already taken. There are online tools that allow you to know which domain names are available and how to buy them.
Once you have a name, you need to start thinking about content. Content refers to text, pictures, videos and in general what the website aims at conveying to the user. If the purposes of the site is to sell a product, it would be a good idea to feature both photos of the product as well as written descriptions. This is true for all types of products, whether they are books, cars, food, hotel rooms, and whatnot. It is also advisable not to overcrowd the website with too much content, or content that is too heavy, such as long videos, because the will have en effect on the loading time, usually making the page take to long to load.
Another key factor is navigation. You will want to make your interface as user-friendly as possible. If visitors find it simple to navigate through the website and easily find what they are looking for, they will feel comfortable and won't go looking somewhere else. If you are proficient in web design and programming language you might undertake the task of developing your website by yourself. Otherwise, you are advised to look for external help. Just remember to ask around and find someone who suits your needs.
